G.R.P moulds can be used to produce a wide spectrum of work, we generally use a gel coat and light tissue, then apply a further 4 layers of mat and resin which is finally reinforced with plywood as and when required. The majority of tooling for such projects is manufactured in house.

An example of a simple pilaster base mould.

This project comprised of a set of 2 fluted column moulds and 1 rubber capital mould. We made the column tool in its entirety, and made the moulds individually from this, as the fluted column tapers it was essential to do this to guarantee alignment of the joints.

This fluted column mould has 24 removable flutes, which are left in the stone while de-moulding. They are then picked off the stone and located back within the mould to cast another unit. This contract required 6 column moulds each decreasing in diameter, which meant the 24 flutes per mould also reduce in size, matching the joints for the 6 moulds was a lengthy process as there was no tolerance. The second picture shows the stone produced from the mould.
